Students gain an understanding of the number of oceans and their names by learning a song. They become aware that there are three zones of the ocean and explore the plants and animals that are found at each level.

Students discover the oceans are being used as a landfill. In groups, they read primary source documents and identify how humans contribute to this problem. They create a document in which to save the oceans from dumping and present it to the class.
