Students use the Internet to access information about their favorite author after reading a book by the author. They write a brief summary about the author.

Students are introduced to a variety of online resources including encyclopedias and resource directories. They use online sources to research an American author and prepare a PowerPoint presentation with their findings.

Students complete an author study. After a lecture/demo, students choose an author and make a presentation. They read at least two books by the author, then write a description of the author's life, and what they noticed about the books.

Students participate in an classroom visit from a author who describes the process of writing a book. They follow the writing process with revisions and publish their works into classroom book. They participate in a Literature Fair.

Students complete an in-depth study of the works or a specific author. Working in pairs, students read at least four works by the same author. After completing the reading, students create an essay comparing and contrasting the works and create an oral presentation documenting their analysis.
