Students identify features of the human body, explore needs of the human body by explaining the importance of good health in relationship to the body, and study functions and care of the human body and its organs.

Students complete a unit on the human body. They explore various websites, construct a skeleton using macaroni, compare/contrast a frog skeleton to a human skeleton, label the main parts of the human body, and create a clay model heart.

Students communicate about the human body. They write letters to simulate the Human Body Corporation. They select an organ and explain its importance in the human body including its name, systems, functions, and how the functions are performed. They draw and label the organ and share both letter and drawing with the class.

Students explore the organs of the human body and function of each. Using transparencies, they construct a "paper doll" overlay of each organ to demonstrate and visualize the location and interrelationship of each organ in the body. Students interview a person whose career involves a system of the human body.
