Students analyze the way that the media views the community that they live in. They poll residents about the strengths and weaknesses of their community and devise ways such as community service projects that they can improve the image of their community.

Students research, write and publish a biography on a community member. They interview the community member, collect and scan photos, produce and edit text and use software to puslish an online book.

Students determine the definition of the word tax. They determine how taxes pay for community services. They draw a picture of a community worker that shows his/her uniform and job. They discuss why taxes are a good thing.
