Learners investigate the early 19th century and the life and leisure of that time. Groups research the history of either boxing or dancing and create visual displays explaining leisure activities of the 19th century. Groups share their information with their classmates.
Students use video and the Internet to research the life of Nellie Bly, a famous female reporter from the 19th century. They research a writer and present their information to the class in the style of a news reporter.
Learners independently select one leisure activity that was popular in the 19th century and become an 'expert' in this activity.
