20th Century Art Lesson Plans

Students research athletes of the 20th Century. In this athlete research lesson, students use the Internet to gather information to write a three paragraph essay. Students will include pictures in their essay.

Have your class create their own art exhibit. Learners study the exchange of artwork between the Louvre in Paris and two American art museums, and create an introductory exhibit featuring European and American art from the Renaissance through the 20th century. Before embarking on this lesson, check the materials list to make sure you are prepared.

Students identify term synectics as a style of thinking, explore and recognize the list as design synectics triggers, explain how design synectics applies to 20th Century Modern Art, and apply design synectics eighty percent of the time to a design they create.

Students create a news story on one of the top 100 news stories of the 20th century.choose one past news event. They write a news story about that event, and provide a continuation of the story based on their research.

Fourth graders are introduced to famous works of art and begin to discuss the artist's work. Use art to explain and reflect their own emotions. The write about feelings in a work of art and make connections between art and other disciplines.

Young scholars analyze the meaning and process of categorizing items, people and events as 'the best.' students then defend pieces of literature, images, and sounds that they feel most represent 'the best of the 20th century.'

Students explore the history of immigration through photographs. For this visual arts and United States immigration history lesson, students view and discuss photographs depicting the culture and lifestyle of late 19th and early 20th century immigrants. Students take pictures of current examples of culture in their neighborhood, create a photograph timeline, and draw conclusions about  lifestyles based on the photographs.

Students research, classify and explain the great achievements of the 20th Century by presenting the highlights of (a decade / two decades) while working in cooperative groups.
