A very thorough lesson, with a strong technology component, awaits your class. They view a PowerPoint presentation which covers techniques used to solve addition and subtraction word problems. Then, in the computer lab, they open up an Excel spreadsheet and solve seven problems. They also utilize worksheets that are embedded in this very fine, and well-designed plan.
Students practice basic addition facts and measuring skills. In this addition lesson, students are provided with drywall tape and work in groups of four at a long table. Partners take turns generating addends and marking the matching number of centimeters on the tape. As each problem is solved, tape is cut and added to a line running the length of the table.
