Algebra II Lesson Plans

Eleventh graders generate the equation of a polynomial given its roots and the end behavior of the function.  In this Algebra II lesson, 11th graders apply theorems concerning the multiplicity of roots, conjugates of irrational or imaginary roots to find a polynomial.  Additionally, students will use a graphing utility to determine local extrema. 

Students explore the concepts of exponential growth and decay.  In this Algebra II lesson plan, the students use a variety of teaching resources, including the web, and modeling and experimentation, to identify exponential growth or decay and sole related problems. 

Eleventh graders explore extraneous roots to radical equations.  In this Algebra II lesson plan, 11th graders solve equations which are typically “unanswerable” with paper and pencil.  The use of the TI-npire provides a method of solution and moves the focus of the lesson plan to flexibility in problem solving.   

Students investigate quadratics.  In this Algebra I/Algebra II lesson, students analyze the effects of parameter changes in the vertex from of the equation of a parabola on the graph of a quadratic. 

Eleventh graders investigate arithmetic and geometric sequences.  In this Algebra II lesson, 11th graders use a graphing calculator to determine if a sequence is linear or exponential.

Students work with Ellipses in Algebra II. In this algebra lesson, students solve an equation with a radical expression. They graph ellipses and write an equation for them.

Eleventh graders explore a real world application of mathematical modeling.  In this Algebra II activity, 11th graders use the TI-Npsire to determine if a given set of data involving engine power is a linear or quadratic model.  Students examine the pattern of the data points and the sum of the squares of the deviations to determine which model fits the data. 

Students use an on-line Algebra II text to follow along as the teacher presents a lesson on Inequalities. As the teacher goes through the examples and concepts presented in the text.

Eleventh graders collect and organize data.  In this Algebra II instructional activity, explore the mathematics of propulsion using a balloon.  Students collect data and records results, organize the data, makes scatter plots, and fit the curves to the appropriate parent function.

Learners explore linear equations.  In this Algebra II lesson, students identify equations that are linear and write the equations in standard and slope-intercept form.  Learners use data to create scatter plots, find linear equations and predict outcomes.
