Young scholars examine factors leading to the demise of ancient civilizations. They list causes that led to the downfall of these societies. Students conduct Internet research and participate in online archaeological investigations.
Pupils explore the ancient civilization of Egypt and explore the geography of and daily life in ancient Egypt; students conclude by writing letters describing one aspect of life in ancient Egypt that they find interesting.
Ninth graders review what they already know about ancient civilizations. Before visiting the museum, they complete a pre-test on Cyprus and how trade is important to the island. During the visit, they travel in small groups to examine artwork, pottery and other artifacts from the area. they complete a post-test to end the lesson and review what they have gathered.
Students acquire an understanding that archaeology is a field of scientific study of the life and culture of ancient civilizations by excavation and study of cities and artifacts.
Students explore why communities settle in locations where land and water meet. They create three-dimensional models to demonstrate their understanding of the numerous needs water serves. They then analyze the importance of water to ancient civilizations and colonial settlements.

Students participate in "Raiders of the Future", a role play about futuristic scientists sending a spaceship to Mars for research and exploration. They collect geological samples for analysis, discover the ruins of an ancient civilization and six mummified bodies!
Sixth graders investigate symbolism in history by examining Ancient Egypt. In this ancient civilization lesson, 6th graders analyze the different social structures and politics of Egypt, Kush and Mesopotamia. Students research and identify characters from Ancient Egyptian writings known as hieroglyphics.
Students examine architectural structures of ancient civilizations by viewing a slide-show. In this architectural design lesson, students observe a slide-show showcasing many historic buildings and structures that have lasted thousands of years. Students discuss how these simple designs are still used in today's society.
Ninth graders explore what can happen when humans live beyond the limits of the natural environment through studying the demise of ancient civilizations. For this World History lesson, 9th graders read about an Ancient Civilization within their groups. Students consider what options these civilizations had.
