Angelfish Lesson Plans

Students research different websites to obtain information about the alphabet. In this Internet lesson plan, students use their knowledge of the alphabet to navigate certain websites.

Students, assigned an alphabet letter, do research on a sea animal whose name begins with that assigned alphabet. All of the assignments then be turned into a class book.

Second graders demonstrate their ability to find the five oceans on a globe and on a world map and relate their knowledge of mountains and other physical characteristics of land masses to the physical characteristics of the ocean floor.

Second graders read books, watch videos, complete worksheets and participate in class discussions about ocean animals. They, in groups, design PowerPoint presentations on selected marine animals.

Pupils participate in hands-on activities dealing with what lives in the ocean. They also read literature about the oceans.

Sixth graders explore the various forms of ocean life. They research a creature that lives in the ocean. Students use their research information to create a series of HyperStudio stacks about their sea creature.

Young scholars create a bulletin board display illustrating food chains they make from a list of ocean organisms. Students also play a game showing what happens when one of the organisms is removed from the food chain and how they are all interdependent on one another.

Young scholars explore coral reefs and their significance in the role as "rain forest of the sea." Students explore if coral reefs are plants or animals. They choose a species of fish to research. Young scholars draw a picture of their fish and place it in the coral reef. They visit a coral reef exhibit and identify as many fish as possible.

Students read about animal camouflage. In this animal adaptation lesson, students read short texts about ways in which animals hide or transform to escape their prey. Students explore animal classifications and determine ways to hide in various locations.

Students participate in a fish-themed sports day. They divide into teams with fish names, decorate the school with fish-themed banners and posters, have fish crackers for snack and compete in a variety of games.
