Young scholars complete a unit pertaining to endangered animals. In this animal instructional activity, students read the book Hoot and research an endangered animal to complete a presentation about. Young scholars write a persuasive essay answering the question of whether or not there should be zoos.
Students complete a KWL chart about animals and the products that come from them. After reading a story, they use flyers to find products produced by animals and complete a concept web with a farm in the middle. They create a collage of the items produced by their specific animal.
Students study the resources provided by farm animals and practice their descriptive writing. For this farm animal and writing lesson, students listen to read aloud books about farm animals. They work in groups to write about an animal by looking at its picture. They make a mural of farm animals as resources.
Students participate in distance learning to view the Road Runner at the Buffalo zoo. In this animal enrichment project, students create a plan for an animal habitat and a brochure about an animal in a zoo. Students take notes using Noodle Tools and Noodle Bibs. Students write an outline about their animal.
Second graders research an animal that is of interest to them. In this animal biology activity, 2nd graders conduct research and complete an organizing sheet, cut photos of their animal out of magazines, create captions for the photos, and compile them in an album format. The organizer and guidelines worksheets are included in this activity.
Students identify the types of animals that may be found on a farm and the resources they provide for people. They read and discuss a variety of books about farm animals, write a description of a farm animal, play an animal/resource matching game, and create a class mural.
Students create an ABC Book of Endangered Animals that includes locator maps, "fast facts," and explanations about why those animals are endangered.

Students discover the diverse roles of hybridization among animals. They research certain examples of animal hybrids as a springboard to analyzing a zoo's potential exhibit of animal hybrids.
Students use facts and imagination to invent imaginary deep sea creatures. They create a classroom museum exhibit on real organisms from the abyss and write creative stories about these animals. In addition, they write a story to explain the adaptations of an ocean animal.
Students, in beginning and advanced beginning ESL levels, use English in an animal lesson.
