This lesson is to be used as a follow up activity, after reading the biography of Annie Oakley. There is an image of Annie Oakley provided and a discussion question but little else.
Students examine various videos and books about Harriet Tub man, Annie Oakley, and Wilma Rudolph. They conduct research, participate in games, and write stories involving these three women.
Third graders investigate famous women. In this famous women lesson, 3rd graders read books and view photographs of famous women. Students discuss the roles of women and study facts about their lives. Students recieve pictures of women with their information attached. Students view the photo and quiz themselves on the facts.
Students investigate the history of patriotic music and practice singing the tunes with classmates. In this U.S. History lesson plan, students examine lyrics of the traditional song "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and discuss the differing points of view in the song. Students sing "Yankee Doodle" as well as other classic patriotic songs in class.
Students explore letters written by women in the past two centuries. In this letters lesson students choose a letter and conduct research to develop a screenplay around the letter.
Students choose a folktale character to research using electronic encyclopedia, software, the Internet, media center and printed material. They focus their research around specific criteria to force the students to be selective and analytical with their research material.
Students complete a variety of language arts based comprehension activities related to the book "Holes" by Louis Sachar. They draw and analyze settings from the story, examine inferences, analyze the theme of perseverance, and complete a learning log for each chapter in the book.
Students differentiate between fact and opinion and infer meaning from text in this lesson. Students are paired and they read the provided short stories. Then students complete a multiple choice set of questions about the facts, opinions, and inferred meanings in the stories.
Students research a historical legend. They participate in a discussion of the legend of Kissing Kate Barlow in the novel Holes. Students then chose one of three American legends and use internet research to complete a provided graphic organizer.
Students are provided with an opportunity to explore not only the interface but also the variety of scenery and objects available on the program. Younger students may require additional teacher assistance during the computer activity.
