Students complete a unit on the differences between a spider and an insect. They conduct Internet research, create a spider and write a story about it, draw a spider web, make honeybee fingerprints, describe an ant colony, and create a drawing of a picture of an ant farm.
Students complete a unit on insects and spiders. They explore various websites, identify and label spider and insect body parts, compare/contrast spiders and insects, identify five butterfly or moth species found in their state, and describe an ant colony.
Students explore the world of spiders. In this spider lesson, students experience literature that features the creature and then participate in classroom activities that further their knowledge regarding spiders.
Learners review the information they gathered on different websites to write a poem about spiders. They use other websites to gain more information if needed. They share their poem with the class.
Students investigate the native Peruvian celebration of Inti Raymi (Festival of The Sun). The lesson provides sufficient background information about the holiday. Students compare the holiday to traditional American holidays.
Students incorporate the knowledge they learned about spiders on the ISM Web site, Spider Collection, and other Web sites they viewed on spiders to write a rhyming poem (possibly choosing a poem type illustrated here) about an aspect of spider anatomy, habitat, or behavior.
Students explore careers by reading assigned text. In this vocational lesson, students read their textbooks and define several strange jobs such as a grizzly bear researcher, waste sorter and arachnologist. Students answer study questions after reading about the different jobs.
Students examine a spider web and record their observations in a journal. In this spider lesson plan, students read books about spiders and then create a research booklet based on their observations.
