Learners imagine being one of the painters in 1910 at the Lyme Art Colony in Connecticut. They use the Florence Griswold Museum's on-line resources to gather information about the daily life of artists at the boardinghouse then write a letter to Miss Florence using a historic voice. they also include a packing list of what they will need for their stay at the boardinghouse in 1910.
Students explore various artists and practice creating their style of painting. In this art history lesson plan, students discover various artists, such as Van Gogh and Michaelangelo, and the style of painting those artists produce. Students paint a picture that represents each artist's style, using a variety of artistic mediums.
