In a pinch, I can find several lesson plans that I can use in my classroom. I have been trying to incorporate relevance and rigor into all of my weekly plans and Lesson Planet has given me tools to do so.

Atoms Lesson Plans

Students view continuous spectra from incandescent and fluorescent lights. They relate energy to frequency of light seen in the spectra. They determine electron energies in the hydrogen atom.
Students choose an element from the periodic table and design the atom complete with protons, neutrons, electrons and if you get really crazy you can have them add mesons, quarks and gluons.
Young scholars observe 3 models that show Dalton, Thomson and Rutherford's theories of the structure of the atom. In this structure of the atom lesson plan, students observe each model and write a summary of each theory of the atom.
Twelfth graders examine how the atomic bomb was developed. They identify when the bombs were used during WWII. Students examine the effects of dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Students are introduced to moles and Avogadro's number, Bohr's model, Atomic emission spectra and quantum numbers. They also comprehend the current model of atoms and how electrons are described by quantum numbers.
Students investigate the structure of the atom through hands on activities. In this atomic structure instructional activity, students perform 4 activities showing indirect evidence of the structure of the atom and the parts of the atom. They also list important terms related to the atom and define each. They role-play the 7 historical models of the atom and the importance of each model.
Students explore atoms, atom components, elements, and the periodic table. They make a model of a particular atom out of a cookie, icing, and different colored sprinkles and completed a worksheet.
Students find the average atomic mass of M & M's. In this chemistry instructional activity, students are given a sample of the element chocolatium and the atomic mass of each sample. They then find the average atomic mass.
Students research the repercussions of the development of the atomic bomb. In this history lesson plan, students read, reflect and discuss nuclear warfare and how it affected the population when it was introduced, as well as how it continues to affect the world in today's society.
Over a series of five class sessions, pupils will complete hands-on activities to measure objects and substances. There is also an emphasis on the organization of the periodic table, atom structures, electrical charges, and physical and chemical properties of various elements.
