Ballet Lesson Plans

Students watch a video highlighting men in ballet. They complete further research on the topic using online and print resources. They create a short skit with the basic elements of dance.

In this lesson learners examine the role of men in the American Ballet Theatre. In this ballet lesson, learners watch segments of the Great Performances video "Dance in America: Born to be Wild: The Leading Men of the American Ballet Theatre." In this lesson learners conduct further research pertaining to male ballet and create presentations to share with their classmates.

In this lesson students learn about the a dance company with disabled dancers as well as the field of integrated dance. In this integrated dance lesson, students read passages about the AXIS Dance Company, an integrated dance company of able and disabled dancers. In this lesson students complete research about the history of integrated dance and theatre, give a presentation of their research, and complete exercises using the approach of integrated dance.

Students investigate music around the world and work with a photographer to understand elements of photography. In this photography lesson, students visit a dance hall and interview the dancers. Students gather ideas and create a video about music and dance around the world. Students will create the music for their video.

In this lesson students examine the importance of physical activities and use word parts to infer meaning to a story. They discuss agility, baseball, and ballet dancing, read an article, and observe a demonstration on breaking down words and examining word parts.

In this lesson students examine the history of the musical "Oklahoma". They choreograph their own segment from the Dream Ballet. They also gather information from listening to media reports.

Students view video and become familiar with the type of movement in jazz dance.  In this jazz dance lesson, students write a cinquain about jazz dance.  Students recognize the elements of jazz dance and the type of music associated with it.

Students share dance moves that reflect their personalities or depict how they are feeling, explore popularity of recreational and competitive social dancing by reading and discussing the article "Follow the Flying Feet," present examples of social dancing, research dance forms performed in class, and reflect on which dance styles they like best.

In this lesson learners discuss dance elements and create a dance map. They choose a dance theme and incorporate movement into their dance maps and choreography. They also experiment with different types of music.

This lesson has students practice mirroring human moves by performing a dance in class.  In this physical education lesson, students utilize different spaces around them to perform a dance expressing their full motion.  This lesson has students cooperate in pairs or small groups to perform their dance.
