Students conduct an experiment to test acids and bases. In this pH scale lesson plan, students learn to identify acids and bases by testing common household substances using a pH indicator. The students will conduct the experiment with the PH indicator and record the results.
Students explore 2-digit multiplication. In this 2-digit multiplication math lesson plan, students work in groups to build models of 2-digit multiplication using base 10 manipulatives. Students construct rectangles replacing standard numbers with their place value equivalent using the blocks. Students relate their rectangles to the traditional written multiplication algorithm.
Students use plant materials as indicators of acids and bases. In this acid/base indicators lesson plan, students use boiled beets, cabbage, flowers, teas or berries that have been boiled with alcohol to test various acids and bases. They add the plant material to observe color changes indicating the acidity of the acid or base.
Fifth graders perform tests to identify acids and bases. In this chemistry lesson, 5th graders identify common household substances as acids or bases using cabbage juice indicator strips.
Learners research the election process. In this government and technology lesson, students research current local or national political candidates to determine demographic information and their positions on major issues. Learners create a classroom database and an individual PowerPoint, HyperStudio, or poster presentation based on the collected information.
Students react to statements about the moon, then read a news article about NASA's plans to build a permanent base on the moon. In this space science and current events instructional activity, the teacher introduces the article with a discussion and a vocabulary activity, then students read the news piece and participate in a think-pair-share discussion. Lesson includes interdisciplinary follow-up activities.
Eighth graders observe and demonstrate how to count using a different base system. They discuss the base ten system, and together with the class create a base two system and observe how to add in a different base system. Students independently complete a worksheet.
Seventh graders observe and demonstrate a different base system and compare numbers. They examine the base 10 system they are already familiar with, and analyze and compare a table of the base 10 and base 2 system. Students then complete the values for base three numbers and complete a base 3 system table.
Eighth graders examine the history of South Carolina's military bases. For this South Carolina history lesson, 8th graders discover details about the history and economic impact of military bases in the state. Students analyze primary sources relative to the topic and share their findings with their classmates.
Learners conduct experiments and collect data to determine physical and chemical characteristics of acids and bases.
