Students examine food labels and study serving size and calories. In this healthy eating lesson students complete several activities to understand food labels.
Students measure the amount of calories in food. In this food energy lesson, students discuss what a calorie is, how our bodies use a calorie, and how many we need. Then, students use a calorimeter to calculate the amount of energy in a food item.
Identify the different types of graphs and when they are used. Learners will research a specific health issue facing teens today. They then develop a survey, collect and analyze data and present their findings in class. This is a lesson on mathematical techniques, but a collaboration with another subject area teacher would be useful to the students.
Students calculate the calories in the food they eat. In this health science lesson, students record everything they eat and drink for a day. They identify the total calories they use daily using the activity chart provided.
