Lesson Planet has been one of the primary ingredients for the mortar I need in order to successfully provide a positive learning environment for my students. It saves me the effort of weeding through the abyss of internet resources available and provides quality resources from qualified and experienced teachers. Thank You!!!

Solving Problems Involving Chords, Radii, Tangents, Secants, and Arcs Within the Same Circle

Tenth graders explore the concept of circles.  In this circles lesson, 10th graders discuss settings in their lives where they encounter circles.  Students work through problems in groups involving finding lengths of diameters, secants, tangents, arcs, and radii of circles and semi-circles.

Let's Go Full Circle - Discovering th Parts of the Circle

Learners explore the concept of circles.  In this circles lesson, students use the GeoMaster application on their graphing calculator to draw circles.  Learners identify and construct parts of the circle such as diameter, radius, and chord.

Segments Formed by Intersectiong Chords, Secants, and Tangents

Tenth graders investigate chords, secants, and tangents. In this geometry instructional activity, 10th graders investigate the properties of segments formed which chords, secants, and tangents, intersect. The dynamic nature of Cabri Jr. allows students to form and verify conjectures regarding segment relationships.

Solving Problems Involving Chords, Radii, Tangents, Secants and Arcs within the Same Circle

Tenth graders apply their knowledge of angles related to a circle, radii, secants, tangents and chords of a circle. They practice using formulas related to a circle. They also apply what has been practiced to real life situations.

A Chording We Will Go

Students examine the relative size of circular objects from the microscopic to the size of the sun. They calculate the center of a circle given the chords of an arc, watch a video, explore various websites, and calculate the center/radius of planets.

Angles Formed by Chords

Students explore the concept of angles formed by chords.  In this angles formed by chords lesson plan, students apply the angles formed by chords in a circle theorem to determine the lengths of arcs.  Students determine the lengths of arcs given the angle measure of an angle formed by two intersecting chords.

Perpendicular Segments in a Circle

Learners explore the concept of circles. In this circles activity, students construct a circle using a program such as Cabri Jr. Learners construct a chord and a diameter that are perpendicular. Students measure the bisected chord and notice that both sides of the bisected chord are equal.

Chords and Circles ID:  9773

Tenth graders explore chords.  In this geometry activity, 10th graders investigate the relationship between a chord in a circle and its perpendicular bisector.  The dynamic nature of the geometry software allows for measurement of lengths and distances from the center to be transferred to a graph for further investigation.

Chords and Circles

Students construct chords and circles.  In this chords and circles lesson, students construct a circle and chord using Cabri Jr.  Students use the intersection of chords to simulate searching for avalanche victims who have a tracing beacon.  Students find the center of the circle, which represents the victim, using perpendicular lines and midpoints.

Angles Formed by Chords

Tenth graders investigate angles and arcs in circles.  In this geometry lesson, 10th graders explore the relationship between the intersecting chords of a circle and the intercepted arcs.  The lesson makes use of a dynamic geometry utility and includes several problems that apply the theorem and a 2-column formal proof of the theorem.
