Christmas Lesson Plans

Students consider the meanings of Christmas by reading an op-ed. As a class, they then create a sequel to the poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas," in which "Mamma" tells a story about the history of Christmas.

Students answer questions about a simple line graph that shows total Christmas tree sales from 1993 to 2000. They take their own survey to study how many of their classmates' families have real trees and how many have artificial trees.

This lesson has learners read The Story of the Christmas Bellsand study the French celebration. In this Christmas Bells lesson, learners locate France on the map and study their holiday celebration. This lesson has learners create Christmas Bells.

In this lesson students decide who was the real author of "The Night Before Christmas." They work in groups to gather the most solid evidence to support that author as the creator of the poem.

Learners will create a book by adapting the "12 Days of Christmas" to their own lives. In this lesson learners illustrate, create and write an accordion book using the traditional Christmas song "12 Days of Christmas" as a guide. Learners will use glitter glue, scissors, and paper to create their book. They will also discuss the origins of the song and how they can change it to fit their life.

This lesson has students write a short story about Christmas without using any of the Christmas words that are on the board. In this creative writing worksheet, students write their story without the use of the words Christmas, Santa Claus, tree, gifts, snow, and holiday.

In this lesson learners make an organ tree as a Christmas tree for the room. They make models of all the organs that they have studied, tie the organs together with the framework of the skeleton and muscles, and use nerves and blood vessels as tinsel.

Students access prior knowledge of story elements.  In this story elements lesson, students listen to The Christmas Blizzard and design a postcard to recall a setting in the story.  Students draw a picture on one side and write about the setting on the other side. Students share postcards.

Students explore geometry by creating holiday decorations. In this holiday festivity lesson, students discuss their favorite types of tree ornaments and ways they can create them. Students utilize everyday materials such as construction paper, ribbon and string to create Christmas tree ornaments for their class tree.

Students do an activity called Santa's favorite Christmas Superstitions where they have to match the two halves of Christmas superstitions. They do another activity called Gifts. The teacher piles a small piece of paper, enough for everybody in the class to have as many as there are people in the class. Each person in the class writes the name of one classmate on each piece of paper they have. Next, the name they should write the gift they'd like to give that person.
