Money Math

Students investigate how to count to ten. They use money to count up to ten cents using different combinations of values. Students label items in the classroom with price tags and estimate the value. Then they create money strips and attach coins to them.

 

What are the different ways we can measure?

Students work cooperatively to measure objects using an inchworm ruler and a standard ruler. In this measurement and reading lesson, students read the Dr. Seuss book, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" and use the characters as the basis of this measurement lesson. Students write "If I were one inch I..." Students are assessed on their ability to measure with a standard ruler and inchworm ruler.

 

Donkeys and Elephants and Voters, Oh My!

Students celebrate party politics. In this American politics lesson, students discover what the 2 main political parties in the country are and discuss their functions. Students then participate in a classroom simulation that requires them to hold a mock convention.

 

Refract and Reflect Exploration

Students analyze physical science by completing an on-line interactive project. In this light properties activity, students participate in light observation experiments which take place at different stations in the classroom. Students utilize the data they acquire from the experiments to complete a Web Quest regarding light and reflection.
