Students explore career opportunities. In this career exploration lesson, students discover jobs that fit their personality types as they use video and Internet sources based on Holland types. Students research careers that fit their personality types.
Students create a pamphlet, brochure, handout, or poster about a career in the marine sciences. In this marine science lesson, students use the Internet to research a marine science career. They create a printed media item to share with the class at an "ocean exploration career fair".
Students generate question lists and interview professionals about their careers. In this careers instructional activity, students interview professionals about their occupations and present the information to the class via a PowerPoint presentation.
Fifth graders gather information about the roles, responsibilities, skills, and training and education requirements of workers. Then they input this information into a graphic organizer chart and identify the similarities and differences in the careers. Eighth graders conduct research on various careers that are of interest to them. They conduct Internet research on a selected career choice, and create a nine card stack using HyperStudio to describe their career's salary, required skills, and general employment information.
Students create a time line using pictures, dates, and words that will depict seven possible career changes they might experience in the world of work. They make a bar graph showing the changes in salary as career changes are made and time goes by and how this corresponds with education level. They research the different careers using CareerZone.
Help ninth graders explore careers that match their interests. They will complete an interest inventory and discuss the outcomes with their class. They will also research a career of their choice and write an oral report to be shared with the class. A rubric for the presentation is included as well as handouts.
