Ninth graders explore Native American culture. In this early Americans lesson, 9th graders will visit several stations around the room and examine native American artifacts then draw comparisons to other cultures. Students will then assemble their own cultural demonstration which shares aspects of their own cultural experiences via magazine collage. This lesson includes online resources, extension activities, and teaching tips.
What is American Roots music? Examine the relationship between music, culture, and history as it relates to America. Middle schoolers will discuss how one can use music to survive culturally. They will also discover the role of music in preserving Native American culture.
Young scholars research background information on the role of Native American women. They then participate in a four station center which enables the students to view pictures, investigate new vocabulary, and research Native American recipies.
Fourth graders explore various Native American tribes and work in groups to create a report. In this Native American lesson, 4th graders gather information which is included in a report and present it to the rest of the class.
Fifth graders apply knowledge about Native American tribes while writing an acrostic poem. They enhance the writing with pictures that symbolize important characteristics of the tribes. They use digital cameras, scanners, image editing and word processing software to create a final presentation of the poetry.
Students read a variety of Native American Literature and discuss the main idea by answering critical thinking questions about the poem. Students use context clues to understand the feeling of the Native American culture about the Earth. Students develop comprehension skills through role playing and analyzing native American Reading materials
Students become familiar with stereotypes associated with Native Americans. In this Native American lesson, 5th graders research and complete a graphic organizer about a particular Native American tribe. Students share facts that dispel stereotypes.
Ninth graders differentiate the Native American and European values. In this world history lesson, 9th graders define colonialism in their own words. They study the effects of epidemics and other diseases to Native American populations.
Students examine several Native American dolls. In this Native American studies lesson plan, students discover the tradition materials and skills that created several types of Native American dolls. Students learn how the dolls represent life as it was lived in the past as they learn about the present day Indian communities.
Students discuss the movement of Native Americans to Indian reservations. In this U.S. History instructional activity, students select two Indian Tribes to study and work over the course of 7 days to collect specific details about their selected tribes.
