Daily Life of Egyptians Lesson Plans

Students work in groups to research daily life in ancient Egypt. After researching topics such as food, housing, or religion, they present their information to the remainder of the class and write a journal entry from the view point of an ancient Egyptian.

Students divide into research groups, and are each assigned a research topic. They access an award-winning Ancient Egypt site, which is an interactive book about the history and culture of the Ancient Egyptian civilization.

Students study the daily lives of ancient Egyptians from every social class. They use creative means to present what they have learned about the lives of Egyptians from all social classes.

Students study the traffic issues that affect daily life in Egypt, and consider what that implies about the country and its people, by reading The New York Times Cairo Journal. They write descriptive pieces about places they have visited by examining them through the lens of one aspect of general life.

Seventh graders explore the history, geography, and culture of ancient Egypt. They research daily life and compare it with their present lives. Students, in pairs, trace their body outlines on poster paper and work individually to use them to create and decorate Egyptian pharaohs, gods or goddesses.

Learners explore paper making. For this tree conservation ecology lesson, students brainstorm ways paper is used in daily life. Learners examine paper fiber using a magnifying glass. Students make paper following a step by step procedure performed by the teacher.

Learners examine and describe the role boats played in ancient Egyptian daily life and the afterlife. They list objects needed for the afterlife by ancient Egyptians, then recreate them using clay or paint.

Sixth graders use both web and print resources to collect data on daily life in ancient Egypt. They use this data to write a script for an Ancient Egypt Talk Show which will be posted as a podcast.
