Dance Lesson Plans

In this lesson 3rd graders choreograph a dance to represent the changes in nature. In this dance and nature lesson plan, 3rd graders use sharp quick movements to demonstrate changes.

This lesson has students explore the Wessels Living History Farm website and research how to do a square dance. They read a story, listen to an explanation of barn dances, and participate in various square dances.

In this lesson learners explore and experience jazz as a social dance form. They study how jazz was an important piece of African-American culture and how it developed.

In this lesson students research the 1920's era in the U.S. In this 1920s era lesson, students create a PowerPoint presentation  and write a research paper incorporating music and fashion of the time. In this lesson students learn and perform a dance from the 1920s.

Students practice the gumboot dance. In this multicultural dance lesson, students are introduced to various steps of the dance and demonstrate the sequence. Students perform cool down exercises after dancing.

3rd graders use body-parts cards and move to them.  In this dance concept and vocabulary lesson, 3rd graders follow movements from body-part cards and become familiar with the vocabulary of the movements. 3rd graders move together and discuss how they felt about their free movements.

In this lesson 5th graders experience the cultures of Mexico through music and dance while showing the ability to others and their boundaries. They are able to perform a dance from each country. In this lesson 5th graders demonstrate an increased ability to respect others and their boundaries.

Students investigate the music and dance of Mazurka. They view a PowerPoint presentation that outlines some of the basic information. Then students listen to the music and dance to it. They are shown a new dance and then asked to perform it as part of an assessment.

In this lesson students explore colors through storytelling and dance. In this visual arts lesson, students view the painting "Bird and Cornstalk Rug" and identify three colors. In this lesson students express how the colors make them feel through the rhythm of percussion instruments. In this lesson students also use movement to express their emotions they get from the colors.

In this lesson students dance a Cossack dance.  In this dance lesson, students learn to keep the beat and follow a movement sequence to dance a Cossack Dance.
