Students participate in a Zulu song game. They listen to African music and discover that is is a part of the culture, ceremonies, and dances. Students learn the dance/song, "Vulani Ringi Ring," and practice it after memorizing the words.
Fourth graders are given a worksheet stating the goal of the day, different sections to visit, and time spent on each section. They are given the CDs, 4th graders are told to insert the CDs into the computer. Students go to The Plains World/Everyday Life. They read about music and songs, students watch the slide show on dance and they listen to the Plains songs.
Students, in groups, create original dances or aerobics routines.
Students select a particular environment, ecosystem or species that is of special interest to them and research the selection to determine if there are any particular cultures with which it is associated (songs, dances or dramatic performances).
First graders describe in words and in dance how people need, use and receive water. They read the book, A Cool Drink of Water to discussing the wonderful pictures and discuss and chart how people need, use, and receive water from what they heard in the book.
Students explore animal characteristics by reading a fiction story in class. In this pet ownership instructional activity, students read the book Dance Mouse Dance and analyze the story, settings and characters. Students answer study questions about the book and define vocabulary terms.
Young scholars create short oral presentations describing how Native American tribes use dance, poetry, music, art and other expressions to make a dedication to a physical concept or thing.
Learners perform a dance step in physical education class. They move to the beat of the music, counting eight beats to a set of movements. Students walk forward four counts and do two jumping jacks. They walk backwards four counts and do alternating punches across their bodies, stepping out at the same time. Learners grapevine right and then left for four counts each. They swim for eight counts. The dance is repeated for the duration of the music.
Learners identify the prepositions demonstrated by classmates in a dance. In this precise prepositions lesson plan, students describe spatial relationships. Learners use these movements to choreograph a dance.
