Discrimination Lesson Plans

Students become familiar with civil rights law, particularly Title VII of Civil Rights Act of 1964, which addresses instances of discrimination in the workplace. Students then recognize instances of workplace discrimination against Arabs, Arab-Americans and Muslims since September 11, 2001, and use law to assess and explain instances of workplace discrimination.

Write about economic and banking issues of concern to the public. Investigate lending discrimination and the impact of the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act. Use a guide to do research and write an essay.

Learners explore discrimination by the media. In this media awareness lesson, students examine stigmas concerning mental illnesses as they are portrayed in the media.

Students examine concept of discrimination and explore difference between appropriate and harmful discrimination. Students discuss relevant Australian legislation and International Law, choose example of discrimination, and write exposition suggesting affirmative action.

Learners examine discrimination including but not focusing on theMiddle East. By the end of the lesson, students relate personal examples of discrimination.

Seventh graders examine the various racism and discrimination faced by various ethnic groups in the United States. In groups, they research the legal system and describe the purpose of the United States Constitution. They review cases brought before the Supreme Court and share their effectiveness to change society. To end the lesson, they discuss what the founding fathers meant by racial superiority.

Students consider how discrimination hampers individual rights. In this diversity lesson plan, analyze the "Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms." Students then explore provided case studies and use the charter to aid them in classroom debates about discrimination.

Students investigate what discrimination is and study Article 2 from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They participate in a role play activity involving majority and minority groups for which a letter was sent home to parents. They complete a journal entry describing their feeling during the role play activity.

Young scholars research how discrimination has changed from World War II to the present day. They examine how the issues may have stayed the same.

Learners watch and analyze the short film "Broken Dreams" and discuss the causes and effects of racism and discrimination. They answer discussion questions related to the film, then create a leaflet entitled "Racism and Discrimination."
