Early Childhood Education Lesson Plans

In this lesson students take notes on how to teach art. They determine if they are right or left brained and experience the frustration of teacher-directed art and trying to stay in the lines of a coloring book. They experience different art activities to develop creativity, ideas on art activities for children.

In this lesson learners practice descriptive writing by viewing auto-portraits of young children.  In this art analysis lesson, learners examine an auto-portrait of their teacher as a young child and ask him/her questions about their youth.  In this lesson learners utilize a Smartboard or projector to discuss descriptive vocabulary words before using them to describe their own childhood.

Students explore what it means to be living. In this science lesson plan, students identify living and non-living things as a result of their learning through discovery from their observation of and interaction with a set of natural phenomena in their community.

In this lesson students explore what it means to "Construct Appropriate Curriculum" so that their preschool can be developmentally appropriate. They participate in some music activities as well as play "sound bingo". These music and movement activities help the children in the preschool class feel comfortable as well as teach them needed motor and listening skills.

Students develop language skills. In this language development lesson, students practice daily living skills, location words, and identifying items by characteristics. Students practice using opposite word descriptions (big/small, over/under, etc) and sort object from both home and school. 

Learners listen as the book, "What Do Animals Do In Winter?" is read to the class. They discuss that during the winter, some animals migrate, hibernate, hide, change color, and some make changes in their bodies like growing extra fur. They then observe a demonstration of how fur keeps animals warm.

In this lesson learners identify ways that water is polluted or contaminated. In this water quality lesson, learners read a book and watch a demonstration on how water is contaminated. In this lesson learners discuss ways that they can be advocates for clean water. 

Students create a storybook which would be appropriate for a 5 year old. They present their children's storybook to the class. The best book is read to younger students.

In this lesson students identify and define new words as they are introduced to specific trees, leaves, animals and animal habitats, engage in literacy-related play by playing games that focus on animals and trees mentioned in book, A Tree for Me, and connect reading to real-life experiences.

Students discuss and create a resume. They are aware of basic employability qualities. Students complete a sample job application and create a personal resume. They listen to a speaker, lecture to them about how to apply for jobs.
