Comparing Religions: Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism

Sixth graders explore religions of the world, In this ancient civilizations lesson plan, 6th graders create a Venn diagram or other graphic organizer that shows the origins, customs, writings, and beliefs of Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Second graders perform mirror dancing. In this dancing instructional activity, 2nd graders are led in a dance warm-up and brainstorm kinds of movements they have done in dance. Students are then led through a demonstration of a mirror dance.

Young scholars explore rhythm.  In this cross curriculum elements of dance, music, and literacy lesson, students listen to and repeat patterns of long/slow and short/fast  sounds.  Young scholars choose a familiar theme and related words with 1- 4 syllables.  Students choreograph a movement exercise using these words and added rhythm.

Students explore storytelling by reading cultural stories by different countries. In this folk tales lesson, students read an American, Mexican, Irish, British and Native American folk tale and identify the different plots, characters and settings. Students define vocabulary terms from the stories and identify the geographic location of the specific country.
