Endangered species Lesson Plans

Young scholars use the internet to complete a virtual field trip on endangered species. They identify the causes of an animal becoming endangered or extinct. They practice using new vocabulary as well.

Students study the interrelationship between the horseshoe crab and red knot. In this ecology lesson, students explain why several species became extinct. They research about endangered species found in their region.

Students consider the future of endangered species. For this conservation lesson, students view a slide show and use mathematical data to construct a prediction for the survival of an endangered species. This lesson includes, personal accounts, math puzzles, a variety of online resources, pictures, and vocabulary.

Students explore the concept of endangered ecosystems.  In this ecosystem lesson, students are grouped into certain endangered species groups.  Students research and learn about their ecosystems.  Students wrap up with a discussion. 

Sixth graders research Africa. In this African life lesson students describe animals from Africa, list endangered species and describe African clothing and communication. Students use Windows to create their own finger counting system and cloth pattern.

Young scholars conduct extensive research on an endangered animal or region. They, in groups, analyze the research and develop viable conservation plans. They also consider the interaction of humans with the endangered species or region.

Second graders work in groups in order to look at specific internet sites for animal adoption and sponsorship. They select an endangered species, determine needed funds, develop, advertise, and carry out a fund-raising plan.

Students research and publish information about an endangered species on the school's web site. In this endangered species lesson, students choose an at-risk species to research. They publish their research information on the school's web site.

Fifth graders research endangered species. In this science lesson, 5th graders research an endangered animal and work in groups to create a flowchart showing the characteristics of the endangered species.

Students label the endangered species on the page.  In this investigative lesson students answer the questions on the worksheet about endangered species.
