Students examine how hormones affect different tissues. In groups, they make their own hormone-receptor model and identify the characteristics of tissues that respone to the different hormones. To end the lesson plan, they examine the role that leptin plays in one's appetite.
Students research a rare species of animals that are a step away from the well known animals of our zoos. They create a mobile which displays the geography, habits, population and habitat of the animals. They draw a picture.
Ninth graders investigate the structure of proteins and how it affects their function. They build a protein model with four helix units and describe how this structure aids the protein in doing its jobs.
Students explore types of governments and political systems. In partners, students share information about their home country. Classmates work together to prepare a presentation about the history and government of a specific country.
Students explore the endocrine system in the human body. In this endocrine system lesson plan, students relate the endocrine system to the mail delivery system, and discuss the important aspect of human body communication. They also learn how the endocrine system is affected in space, and what engineers do to help the astronauts with the effects.
