Lesson Planet has really helped me with not going "bonkers" over trying to find innovative and fun activities to incorporate into my daily lessons. Kids, even highschoolers whom I teach, don't want to have lectures all the way through each class period, so having activities that are fun can make students more involved which helps them learn the concept of whatever topic I'm teaching.

Learners investigate the geographic and cultural differences in Europe. In this social studies lesson, students research and describe the philanthropy of different European nations, while charting and comparing them to each other.
Students study the Titanic disaster. For this research skills lesson, students watch "Turmoil in 20th Century Europe," and then discuss how experts have provided the public information about the disaster. Students research the disaster and design scrapbooks that feature their findings.
Students discover the importance of the Crusades to the expansion of trade. After researching the Middle Ages, they brainstorm methods of transporting goods from Asia, India, and the Middle East to Europe. They write letters to a king or queen of the time explaining why a new route to the East is needed.
Students compare the histories of Japan and the United States by creating horizontal time lines of the two countries. They conduct research via the internet and available text books to complete their time line. The class discusses the similarities and differences of the two cultures.
Students explore historical figures. In this history/research lesson, students use a variety of research materials to learn about the historical figure of their choice. Students write questions and responses as if they were interviewing the famous person, and share their writing using optional formats.
Research everyday life of people living in British North America in the mid 1800s. Use this British North America history lesson to have students discuss resources to use for researching history. They will read about the Hensley Horror, complete an analysis sheet for primary and secondary sources, and a photograph analysis sheet.
