Uncovering the Tales of Famous Explorers and Their Historical Expeditions
Students investigate various expeditions throughout history to new and or uncharted territories. They participate in groups in order to develop and produce television news magazine segments about some of these historical expeditions.
9th - 12th Social Studies & History
I, As a Learner
Students demonstrate knowledge in several critical skill areas of langauge arts. In this language arts and cultural diversity lesson, students read passages, identify problems/ solutions, deduce the meaning of words through analysis, employ semantic webbing, use present perfect tense of verbs correctly, identify positive traits and values of Filipinos and write an essay.
6th - 9th English Language Arts
Students research one of seventeen explorers before filling in a worksheet. Next, they write a song verse using the information and sing it to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." On the next day, they play a game of "Who Am I?" using explorer cards which they tape to their backs while classmates ask questions to identify the explorer.
5th - 7th Social Studies & History
Early Growth and Expansion: Russia and Japan
Fifth graders examine the role of geography in both the political expansion of Russia and the isolation of Japan. They evaluate the costs and benefits of Russia's expansion. They complete a worksheet exploring Japanese feudalism and imposed isolation.
