Lesson Planet has really helped me with not going "bonkers" over trying to find innovative and fun activities to incorporate into my daily lessons. Kids, even highschoolers whom I teach, don't want to have lectures all the way through each class period, so having activities that are fun can make students more involved which helps them learn the concept of whatever topic I'm teaching.

Fish Lesson Plans

Students investigate the craft of fishing by participating in a class game. In this physical education lesson, students participate in a game of tag in which they are split into two groups, anglers and fish. Students exercise and perform the game several times, playing for both teams before they finish.
Students examine and identify the various types of fish native to Utah. In groups, they classify the fish based on their size and life span. They use a software program to discover the fish with the longest and shortest life span and the largest and smallest fish.
Students complete pre reading, writing, post reading activities for the book Flip the Funny Fish. In this guided reading lesson plan, students complete writing, go over vocabulary, answer short answer questions, have discussions, and more.
Students use modern technology to research the history, design, and function of a specific tool or piece of fishing technology. They create a timeline and story about the evolution of the tool.
Students complete a worksheet to introduce them to the native fish of Utah. As a class, they cut out and color the Go Fish cards and play the game in small groups. They review the characteristics of the various fish to end the lesson.
First graders play a game of "Go Fish" using their current spelling words. They discuss the rules of the game, create playing cards with the spelling words on them, and play the game with a small group of students, having to spell the words correctly to collect the cards.
Students explore how organisms are adapted to live in the ultimate of extreme environments. They discuss the reasons for the similarities and differeneces between them, theirselves, and the more familiar organisms around them. Students are shown that antarctic fishes are prefect examples of extreme specialization.
Young scholars research a fish or other underwater animal that interests them. They compare and contrast the images they gather with the different stages of production of their sculptural model to create a life-like replica. Students represent their chosen creature from 2-D images into 3-dimensional artwork.
Students construct a picture of fish or other sea life using Elmer's glue. They use a watercolor to represent the ocean.
Seventh graders watch a video about a fish hatchery. They then compare the hatchery's method of reproduction to that of the trout's natural method.
