Louisiana Natural Resources and Products

Third graders examine geography by creating a booklet. In this natural resources lesson, 3rd graders investigate the agriculture in the state of Louisiana by utilizing the web and completing a graphic organizer. Students collaborate with classmates and compile their Louisiana natural resource information into a readable booklet.

 

Bison Gone: Appreciating Natural Resources

Students examine the effects of the loss of the bison after the Europeans arrived in North America. Global Resources: What Will You Do with Your Power?

Students examine the human impact on natural resources. They read and discuss an article, evaluate nations regarding their environmental problem-solving, develop a presidential speech on the environment, and conduct a natural resources scavenger hunt.

 

What Are Natural Resources

First graders identify natural resources and place items into the proper category. They complete a Natural Resources Chart and draw things listed on the chart. After walking the school grounds, 1st graders write and draw about things they found and categorize the natural resource from which they was made.

 

"Tree Products Scavenger Hunt"

Sixth graders compare finished wood products to the raw materials from which they come. They determine how consumption impacts the availability of the natural resource found in the forest. They create an advertisement for one product.

 

Forestry/Natural Resources Lesson Plans

Students visit a sugar maple tree and then explore how sweet treats come from a sugar maple. They sample products and report their preferences on a graph.
