I work with students that range from year 1 to year 12, approx 30 with various Special Needs and esl. Because of the range in year levels and subjects covered it is impossible to find time to make my own resources for many of the lessons. Lesson Planet has become a realiable source to gain information and ideas.

Young scholars explore the use of fossil fuel energy. In this ecology lesson, students review the multiple steps used to make an aluminum can. Small groups choose a breakfast cereal and create a flow chart showing all the processes used to make the box and the ingredients. Class discussion includes the use of fossil fuel during this process.
Students develop a hypothesis for the survival of living fossils such as coelacanths and horseshoe crabs. They discuss theories for the extinction of dinosaurs then research one of the living fossils in detail to evaluate their own hypothesis. There is a Discovery Channel companion video for this lesson.
Students define and investigate paleontology, research geological history of the Chesapeake Bay, review geological time line, and identify fossils of the Chesapeake Bay.
Students investigate fossils. In this geology lesson, students study various types of fossils in rocks and identify the characteristics of the fossil. Students write a research paper on their fossil.
Students research fossils to learn about dinosaurs and the time frame of the age. In this fossils lesson, students study pictures of paleontologists at work. Students study fossils and discuss them. Students create fossils from clay and then discover them as paleontologists. Students read books about fossils and can write stories about fossils.
Learners examine what living fossils mean and some reasons why they have survived. In this fossils lesson students use scientific data to determine whether the hypothesis is accurate.
Young scholars examine the concept of radioactive dating. In this radioactive dating instructional activity, students investigate how to determine the ages of fossils and rocks as they learn about half-life radioactive decay.
Students discover fossil specimens. For this archaeological lesson, students discuss fossils and search through a "dig" mix and search for fossils of shells. Students identify the fossils.
Students complete activities to study fossils. In this fossils lesson, students complete a KWL chart about a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Students go on a nature walk to find a 'fossil' and make an imprint of it for their classmates to infer about. Students use and write definitions for related terms. Students work in cooperative groups on a picture match activity, cookie excavation dig, and a fossil making activity. Students finish with two games about the topic.
Students understand how fossils are formed. In this dinosaur fossil lesson, students complete a KWL to record prior knowledge and the information they will find. Students make fossils and use the vocabulary scientist would use to discuss them.
