Learners study the works of the major French Impressionist painters: Renoir, Monet, Degas, Gauguin, Seurat, ToulouseLautrec, Utrillo, Pissarro, Cassatt, Morisot, and Caillebotte. They produce products for presentation, and use reading and writing strategies in various activities.
Fourth graders engage in a lesson constructed in order to dissect the parts of a story used by the news media in order to communicate to the public. They use the media in order to help obtain information. Students create their own newspaper.
Students engage a fun unit exploring the languages of French and Spanish. This is done in order to create interest into future study of the languages. There are various activities that are performed at successive climbing levels.

In American society students need to know how to observe the law and defend their rights. "Once someone knows you know your legal rights, he or she is usually quick to try to work something out" (Alderman xvi). However, in order to defend their rights, students, especially ESL students, must hone their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This unit will have a cross-curricular focus that will develop these language skills
Fourth graders create a diorama of the habitat of the fish of their choice, along with a research paper. They research habitats, the factors which affect specific habitats, and how fish adapt to different habitats in order to meet their unique needs. They identify food chains as systems which facilitate the transfer of energy from one source into many others.
Students complete activities from Cobblestone magazine May/ June 2010. In this American History lesson plan, students read articles about the 30 greatest American events that have altered history. They answer comprehension questions, discuss new vocabulary, complete writing activities, art, and do research.
