Students review the style techniques related to the American Method Acting and practice using them in groups. Using various scenes from films, they try to recreate the scene using props. In groups, they discover the proper way to get into character and use improvisation to develop a skit.
Students examine the life and works of various Latin American women. After reading excerpts of each work, they answer comprehension questions and discuss as a class. In groups, they re-write the Equality of Rights in their own words and examine the feminist press in Brazil. To end the lesson, they compare and contrast the lives of women in Brazil to those in the United States.
Fifth graders investigate the lives and contributions of Latinos whose life and work permeate our culture. They use information about their subjects to produce a guided paragraph.
Students read and interpret reading selections about muralists. Also, they conduct internet activities providing a cultural overview of the 20th century muralists. After activities are complete, students answer comprehension questions.
Students take a virtual tip to the Mural Museum and examine the Museo Mural Diego Rivera. Identifying fifteen people in the mural, they research them to find out more about their lives. They discover the history of the painting and compare the people in the mural to the people in their own community. They also compare the park in the mural to ones they are familiar with.

Students compare the meanings of self-portraiture and portraiture. They examine Andy Warhol's Mick Jagger series (1973) of portraits. Afterward, they create self-portrait drawings on unbreakable mirrors.
