Geography of Mexico Lesson Plans

Students explore Mexico. For this geography skills lesson, students design a travel brochure that markets Mexico by highlighting its location, population, capital, landforms, famous places, and food.
Students identify the geography and climate of their state. They list the basic human needs and describe how to meet those needs in the conditions identified. Then they write a letter to travelers or explorers to their state explaining the conditions.
Learners explore the customs and traditions of the United States' southern neighbor. They see that Mexico's land is composed of mountains, deserts, and tropical zones and that Mexican culture and traditions are an integral part of everyday life in Mexico.
Students are able to use the Internet to conduct research. They research Mexican culture and traditions. Students compare and contrast Mexican and U.S. food and clothing. They convert United States currency to Mexican pesos. Students create a travel brochure about Mexico and present an oral report from gathered research.
Students study the conquest of Mexico and the role of La Llorona. They review the geographical locations of the Aztec civilization and present day Mexico. They compare and contrast an Aztec city and a Spanish city. They create a timeline of Spanish conquest including Dona Marina's role. They research her life and simulate a trial.
Study the culture, language, and history of Mexico in this collection of lessons. Create maps of Mexico's geography, study Spanish language phrases, and create a fiesta, along with a Mexican Marketplace scene.
Sixth graders study the Olmec civilization. They develop a map of Mexico and a map of the area of the Olmec civilization. They research Olmec art, religion, and architecture. They construct Olmec symbols including giant heads, altars, and sculptures.
Learners practice map-reading skills as they locate Mexico and its cities on a world map. By creating a puzzle out of a map of Mexico, students engage in a meaningful hands-on activity to help them explore that country's geography.
“ Main Idea ”
Most of the states in the union have a nickname. Using the New Mexico state quarter as an example, pupils will try to figure out why particular states have particular nicknames. They will think about all the reasons New Mexico might be called "Land of Enchantment." This includes worksheets, procedure, and web links.
Students research daily life, industries, and the political situation along the United States/Mexico border. They conduct research to research what it might be like to live at the border and the controversies surround US government policies.
