Geography Lesson Plans

This lesson has students identify the geography and climate of their state. They list the basic human needs and describe how to meet those needs in the conditions identified. Then they write a letter to travelers or explorers to their state explaining the conditions.

4th graders examine the effects of human activities on the physical environment. In this geography lesson, 4th graders study areas in the West region of the United States. 4th graders watch a video about the depletion of salmon in this area and use graphic organizers to record information. 4th graders write a paper expressing ideas on how to preserve the salmon population.

Learners research on natural disasters and create a PowerPoint storyboard about it. In this social studies lesson, learners apply the five geography themes to their research. They write a paper about how they relate to each other.

Learners research and view a video on the geography of the Caribbean. In this Caribbean geography lesson, learners go on an imaginary trip to the Caribbean and write postcards and letters telling of their trip. Learners will include information on culture, products and geographical features.

Learners explore information about the provinces of Canada. In this Canadian geography lesson, learners create maps of the provinces. Learners write paragraphs to compare and contrast the provinces.

Students find and locate the names of foreign countries in the newspaper. They rotate through four or five learning stations on geography. Then they choose an area that interests them and write a research report.

Learners complete centers all dealing with geography. In this geography lesson, learners write letters to pen pals, tell time to the nearest half hour, complete a puzzle, find information about different U.S. cities, compare weather around the United States and much more.

Learners study how geography has affected the outcome of events and daily life in historical cultures. They study out Greece's elevation zones, precipitation, and average temperatures, and predict how these factors might have influenced daily life, warfare, and trade in ancient Greece; research and take notes on how Greece's physical geography affected daily life, warfare, and trade.

Learners apply their knowledge of the 5 themes of geography and relate the 5 themes to China and the Silk Road. They investigate how the Silk Road ended China's isolation from the West?

Students complete an online geography lesson and role play the results.  In this where in the world lesson, students create a tableau in pairs and act out their dialogue. Student tableau tells destinations attributes.
