Help your middle and high schoolers explore geometric terminology. In this geometry lesson, learners use the entire year to create an ABC Geometry book. Students use a list of terms learned in class to create a page for each letter. Students use a rubric to guide their process.
Students explore the concept of geometry. In this geometry instructional activity, students practice problems from the geometry regents exam. Students answer practice problems that are multiple choice. Students answer questions involving angle measures, parallel lines, shapes, congruent figures, circles, perpendicular lines, etc.
Learners explore points, lines and planes as it relates to geometry. In this geometry activity, students analyze space and explain wy it is 3-D and not flat or 2-D. They solve problems involving volume and 3-D shapes.
Students access a variety of Egyptian Culture and pyramid related resources on the Internet. They explore various websites, read articles, create an Egyptian art figure, construct a model of a pyramid, and describe the mummification process.
Fifth graders create a geometric poster displaying a variety of geometric terms and figures. They read and discuss a list of geometric terms, and discuss the Geometric Poster Scoring Guide. Students then create their poster, including terms and graphics from their ABC Book of Geometry.
Students find the volume of solids. In this volume of solids lesson, students find the surface area and volume of cylinders, pyramids, and prisms. They place cubes inside three-dimensional figures to determine the volume. Worksheets and answers are provided.
Students view geometry in the world around them. In this geometry lesson, students look at buildings and find examples of symmetry and geometry. They look for 2D and 3D shapes and congruency.
Third graders use quilts as a visual prompt to review mathematics vocabulary associated with geometry in the third grade curriculum. A hands-on activity serves as a practice and review at the conclusion of this lesson.
Students calculate pyramid measurements. In this measurement lesson, students calculate the area, surface area, and volume of selected pyramids. Students create graphs that compare the measurements of the pyramids with measurements of other landmarks.
Students explore the simple machine of a wedge. In this wedge lesson, students test wedges on different materials including wax, soap, clay and foam. They learn how a wedge was used to build the ancient pyramid and modern day skyscrapers.
