Students expand on Halloween story starters and build engaging original stories using the computer. They use a word processing program to load, enter, save, and print text, recognize the benefits of word processing, and demonstrate proper keyboarding techniques for upper and lower case letters.
Students find a recipe on the Internet. They read a recipe and prepare a shopping list. They purchase ingredients from a shopping list at a local grocery store. They follow directions and make Graveyard Pizza. They complete a worksheet about Halloween.
Students examine Halloween costumes. In this diversity instructional activity, students discuss stereotypes as well as common Halloween costumes. Students determine what constitutes appropriate costumes.
Young scholars create Halloween word problems. In this holiday lesson, students create their own Halloween word problems. They type them into PowerPoint with slide 1 being the problem and slide 2 being the solution and explanation.
Students gather different shaped rocks and create Halloween decorations using the rocks, paints, and various art supplies in this Art lesson for all ages and ability levels. Three rock "creations" can be accomplished (pumpkins, ghosts, and spiders).
Second graders write to their pen pals. For this pen pal lesson, 2nd graders write Halloween themed letters. They focus on sentence structure, punctuation, and capital letters.
Students create Halloween paper bag masks using paper bags, scissors, pens, crayons, paints, glue, glitter, tissue paper, and various other art materials. This instructional activity is ideal for late-October and can be done in as little as 30 minutes.
Students listen to the book, Harriet's Halloween Candy, and discuss the many ways Harriet sorted the candy from her trick-or-treat bag. They sort and classify individually wrapped candy.
Learners play games in a series of Halloween themed game stations. They rotate among the stations and run races, dress up in a witches costume, run through a haunted obstacle course and other events through the course.
First graders determine the popularity of five Halloween costumes. Analyzing the data, they reflect on their current interests and view their classmates perspective on the holiday. They enter the data on a spreedsheet and create a bar graph. They use the graph to answer questions to end the lesson.
