Hanukkah Lesson Plans

Students create great foods from different holiday celebrations. They follow recipes to prepare foods that are common to holiday celebrations in different cultures.
Students build memory and attention-to-detail skills as they play this seasonal adaptation of the classic Concentration game. They have fun and build skills of memory, attention to detail, and cooperation while playing the game.
“ Not Cuckoo's Nest, not at all ”
Students participate in a variety of seasonal activities. In this holiday instructional activity, students make reindeer, winter paintings and sing winter songs. Students sing holiday songs. Students use cookie cutters and mold clay.
Students examine how five different countries use light in their celebrations and festivals. They locate countries on a map, conduct research and prepare a poster for a specific holiday, complete a worksheet, and create a tin lantern.
Students produce a factual book about customs in other countries. They produce a poem about a country/custom. They locate countries on a map. They compile and compare data about each country.
Students explore winter and holidays. In this reading strategies lesson, students use storyboarding, choral reading, partner reading and independent reading to gain knowledge. Students read a story about making cookies and list the steps involved. Students storyboard the steps.
Students read and analyze The Apprentice's Masterpiece. Various proven pre-, during, and post-teaching strategies are utilized to connect medieval history to modern-day understanding of the persecution of minorities. Character analysis is also a key component of this extended lesson.
Second graders explore the holidays of different cultures. For this culture lesson, 2nd graders knowledge about various holidays. Students play a matching game with the name of the holiday and the description. Students research one of the holidays and fill out a self assessment.
Students explore Christmas. In this holiday lesson, students list things they know about Christmas, read books and compare and contrast Christmas to other holidays. Students work on patterns and create a string of lights as a class.
Students read and evaluate the November/December 2010 issue of Ladybug Magazine. In this analysis activity students read several articles and stories in the magazine and respond to comprehension questions. Students literacy skills are strengthened through activities with each article or story.
