Health Lesson Plans

In this lesson students reflect on and discuss their attitudes toward health and illness. They help to educate each other by researching illnesses in small groups, creating a handbook and writing response papers.

Students research the issue of health care. They develop solutions to the problems of under or uninsured members. They examine the role of the government in this problem as well.

In this lesson learners examine the public health issues and diseases doctors faced during the 1900's. They identify the diseases that were present in the 1900's and list the different cures that were discovered during the last 100 years

This lesson has students examine human health by completing a human sexuality worksheet. In this puberty lesson, students discuss the common smells and hygiene issues they will need to take care of as they travel through adolescence. This lesson has students complete fill in the blank questions based on the information in the lesson.

Students research options for public and privately funded health care and use their research to take part in a Town Hall Meeting. Students contact the representatives advocating a policy or write an individual follow up to the Town Hall Meeting detailing their personal opinion.

5th graders determine the validity of health information and advertisements. In this health lesson, 5th graders take on-line quizzes aimed at dispelling health myths, determine where to get trustworthy information, and, with their parents, evaluate advertisements for health products or services.

Students investigate The Bubonic Plague. In this health lesson, students discover how the spread of the plague helped people understanding the importance of good health habits.

Students examine global health issues and the philanthropic efforts of Bill Gates. Working in groups, they research selected diseases focusing on symptoms, transmission, and prevention. They conclude by writing grant proposals to help eliminate worldwide diseases.

Students investigate the primary causes for the increase in overweight youth snf discover its impact on the health care system. After watching segments from the Bill Moyers Now program, they develop campaigns to implement in school that combat obesity and promote physical activity.
