Students examine how various painting styles anticipated the new artistic medium of film in 1895. They identify what makes film unique as a medium, view a Powerpoint presentation, and construct an animation toy or flip book.
Students, after researching the history and construction of movie theaters, read a book of their choice and portray its primary characters and plot in a visual, movie-style report. They design and create their own movie theater in which to show their book report.
Fifth graders, in groups, research a specified topic of Canadian history. They dramatize their findings, become familiar with many filming techniques and film themselves in a historical skit for presentation to the class.
