History of Religion Lesson Plans

Students learn about the two main types of religions.  In this religion lesson, students define religion and learn about early religion as well as religion in the west.  Students define animism, polytheism, pantheism, monotheism, agnosticism and atheism.

Students examine the freedoms and rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. In this Bill of Rights lesson, students review court cases and create a collage that require them to consider the right they are guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Pupils divide into small groups, each one taking one of the sections of the letter from Secretary Riley, "Legal Guidelines on Religious Expression in Public Schools," the letter from Secretary Paige, and the document "Guidance on Constitutionality Protected Prayer in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools" to read and explain to the other class members.

Students explore religious expression in the United States. In this religious freedom lesson, students read a handout regarding Religious Freedom Day and other handouts regarding religious expression in public schools. Students complete the provided worksheet activities as well.

Students investigate the history of religion by researching scriptures.  In this world history lesson, students define the five biggest religions known to man, comparing and contrasting two of them.  Students discuss religion with a religious figure when they visit their class.

Students explore Spanish culture by listening to a lecture in class. In this religious celebration activity, students discuss the Holy Week in Spain and the similarities between Spanish and American religious appreciation. Students define a list of religious terms and discuss the history of religion in Spain.
