Immunization Lesson Plans

Learners explore how the immune system, fights a war with a pathogenic organism: one of the many bacteria, viruses, and protozoans that can infect our bodies and cause disease.

Students develop an experiment to test a hypothesis. They use their knowledge of antigen-antibody specificity to develop a hypothesis. Students articulate that the antibody-antigen specificity is one part of the immune system. They develop questions around the components of the immune system.

Students analyze colors and the reasons they are used in preschool room setups. They examine preschool setups, safety procedures, and the immunizations required for preschool.

Students identify the colors used in a preschool classroom, the set-up, the safety procedures, as well as the immunizations required for a preschool. They also engage in small activities that include a class discussion, note taking, and visiting a childcare lab.

Learners discover the importance of immunizations and general nutrition.  In this health lesson, students review a medical website and research facts about immunizations, nutrition, birth defects, and disabilities.  Learners then interview one of the medical professional.

Students examine the need for proper immunizations, good nutrition, and other safety concerns.

Students describe what a virus is. They state examples of disease caused by viruses. They explain how a virus replicates itself. They describe how the immune system responds to a viral invasion. They explain why the HIV virus in unique.

Students discover what a fever is and how the immune system operates. They create a model of a thermometer and completes a worksheet converting numbers from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Students are introduced to bacteria and their role in biology and finishes with a lab experiment that focuses on antibiotics. They are given an overview of the important concepts involving bacteria and their potential resistance to antibiotics.

Students explore how the study of diseases, epidemics and disease management offers opportunities for exploration of biological evolution, immune systems, interaction between humans and their environment, and interaction among organisms. They become familiar with public health professionals who work toward protecting the health of the community.
