Sixth graders investigate America's Industrial Revolution. They research inventions of this era, corruption, the origins of current work laws, and participate in a Thomas Edison Day, presenting information on an invention and inventor.

The Industrial Revolution

Students explore what life was like during the Industrial Revolution.  In this United States History lesson, students analyze a specific job then complete a webquest about that job.  Once their research is complete, students work in groups to discuss their findings and develop an opinion about which job they think was the worst.

 

Industrialization of the American Landscape

Students summarize the three sectors of industry and how these sectors applied to the Industrial Revolution. Students apply their skills in research and note-taking, as well as vocabulary building through web organizers. Students address current pollution issues within their community. Students create a pamphlet as a final project through research that addresses Wildcat Dumping.

 

Industrialization of the American Landscape - Language Arts

Students examine poetry , editorials, and other writings during the Industrial Revolution. They perform a "chalk talk" to explain perceptions, ideas and observations of the working world. Students write poetry and essays modeled after the era.

 

Interpreting Data Related to Industrialization

Ninth graders compare and contrast industrialized and non-industrialized nations. In this global studies lesson, 9th graders analyze data from nations in the world and determine how the statistics indicate the status of nations.
