Students describe how the sun heats the Earth, explain the nature of infrared light, explain how thunderstorms are formed and use infared maps to predict severe weather.

 

Differential Thermal Calorimetry

Students access prior knowledge of infrared rays, ultraviolet rays, gamma rays, x-rays and cosmic waves. For this electromagnetic waves lesson, students hold a mock trial electromagnetic spectrum. Students present characteristics of the various wave types and their position in the spectrum and debate over whether government should control them. Students complete a table to aid in presentations.

 

Beyond the Milky Way

Fourth graders explore space science. In this space exploration lesson, 4th graders investigate the tools that engineers use to examine the solar system. Students analyze the history of the stud of the solar system.
