In this lesson 6th graders investigate the decomposing ability of microorganisms by constructing a decomposition chamber and observing/recording the changes that take place in one month.
Students determine where microorganisms might be found around their school. In this scientific investigation lesson, students collect cultures from various locations and place these in petri dishes. They incubate the cultures to see if there are microbes at the locations selected.
Learners create a KWL chart about food. In this chemistry lesson, learners differentiate physical and chemical changes. They explain how microorganisms are used in food preparation.
Learners conduct experiments with yeast to study characteristics of microorganisms. They, working is small groups, change the variables in the experiments and note the results which they later discuss as a class.
6th graders explore the types and functions of various microorganisms. They examine which one are helpful and which are harmful. They research microorganisms and write a report about them. They conduct experiments and create a website on microorganisms.
